A common thing we’ve seen across the vehicles we service in Chicago are the engine bays are almost never cleaned. And it makes sense. The only time you open the hood is when you’re going to service the vehicle with an oil change or maybe checking the battery. Aside from that, the hood stays closed and out of mind.
Our engine bay detail safely cleans the top-side of your engine. For one, it makes your engine bay look clean and new. And secondly, having a clean engine makes finding leaks in hoses much easier.
Now, we only clean the top side of your engine. The side where it’s most visible to your eye. If you need someone to lift your car and get underneath, that’s not something we’re able to do.
The Engine Bay Cleaning Process
Our engine bay cleaning process involves the following steps:
Inspection: We begin by inspecting the engine bay to identify any specific areas of concern and covering the battery and alternator.
Remove debris: Next we’ll remove debris like branches, leaves, and acorns before we start the cleaning process.
Spray and clean: Now it’s time to do the bulk of the work where we spray our cleaner, let it dwell, and use a variety of brushes to deep clean the engine bay.
Rinse the grime: Using light pressure, we’ll rinse off the grime. It’s important to note that we do not soak the engine bay with water and we don’t use high pressure. We’re using just enough water to carry the grime off the engine bay.
Wipe down: Next, the engine bay is wiped down to remove any remaining residue or dirt.
Dress the plastics: Finally, we apply a protective dressing to rubber and plastic surfaces, enhancing their appearance and preventing cracking and fading.

A Safe Engine Bay Cleaning
A common theme we see about engine cleanings is people are worried about using water. And if mishandled, you can definitely cause damage to your engine. That being said, when we clean your engine, we are using minimal water to rinse your vehicle.
On top of that, other precautions we take are covering the alternator, battery, or intakes so that water can’t get on them. Towards the end of the detail, we’ll touch up those areas by hand.
Many of the newer vehicle’s engines are covered by plastic, which makes it even easier and safer to clean.

Our main focus with these engine bay details are to clean the dirt, grime, and average grease or oil that accumulates around the engine. If there’s a big leak or spill that’s really caked up and dried out, that may be too much for us to do.
